Core Outcome Set for LEPtospirosis trials (COS-LEP)
Constructing a core outcome set
for use in future clinical trials and studies
on Leptospirosis
What is a core outcome set (COS)?
A COS is a minimum set of outcomes of specific importance that should be measured and reported in all clinical trials for a specific condition. COS are also suitable for use in routine care, clinical audit and research other than randomised trials.
Having an agreed set of outcomes that should be looked in future studies will lead to harmonization of research and better comparibility of results.
Further information about COS can be found here
Why is this needed for Leptospirosis?
Leptospirosis is a bacterial infection that occurs worldwide. It is of particular public health concern due to its global distribution, epidemic potential and high mortality without appropriate treatment. The evidence behind the management of leptospirosis is clouded by methodological inconsistency and a lack of standardized outcome measures.
The COS-LEP study aims to develop a COS for leptospirosis research, thereby addressing an identified inconsistency in previous leptospirosis clinical trial research.
This will be instrumental in constructing a high-quality evidence base to feed in to a planned rigorous international clinical trial on Leptospirosis.
